Just curious on what everyone thinks of the time it take to get a rank, and the award for doing so; basically the system in general. Remember to post your thoughts after you vote!

It's a nice way to see who's better than others, but it takes FOREVER. Also, there needs to be more ways to get SP that people will actually use. Hardly anyone uses duel/friend recruiting to get SP these days, because they aren't worth the effort. Maybe a single player game where you have to play different set scenarios with AI to get a fixed amount of SP? There could be progressing levels as you go along.

I was thinking that adding grades in between each rank and an SP bonus for how fast your reach that grade would help out, or that there could be double SP weekends or something.

Explain oh wise Robloxian :3 Also, @thread, would Multipliers or Badges ever be considered?

RobloxianMall, it is meant to take forever. That's online gaming for ya. There is not much of a reward to be fair as you'll have enough SP to buy most if not all the upgrades by the end of rank 10. I voted "it's decent enough", as the fact you get the rank insignia showing next to your name in lists such as the list of players or in the lobby. There should probably be something more though.

Just more reasons why I like to stick to my cozy consoles, much more replay-ability and actual reasons to keep playing, instead of "Wait six months for a new update guise!" or my personal favorite "Take 9 months to go from rank 8 to rank 9 guise!". There's needs to be more "options" honestly, the ranking system is only the start. Yes, we've gone over how "rank doesn't matter", but indeed it does, because it keeps people wanting to come back to be a higher rank than everyone else. Normal people can't play 10 matches a day like most high-ranks (or in some cases, spend 5 hours boosting). I don't know, I just wish there was more than what there really is.

Well, you ignore the fact that all the people that say "rank doesn't matter" (generally a valid statement IMO) are a minority, as most people think that the highest-ranked player in a game is automatically the best and needs to get learster'd. But yeah, it is true, there should be more of a reward. Keep the time taken the same; just make the change in rank somewhat more rewarding. Unfortunately, I'm not creative enough to come up with anything feasible for that, though I have an idea or two.

I usually ignore the "rank doesn't matter" statement when it comes into play, involving earning Cred (In this case, SP). Rank should reward you with an SP bonus, because let's face it: For a normal player, who can play 2-3 quick matches a day, getting to that rank takes way too long. Some people get extremely bored of the same repetitive gameplay and just quit. There needs to be incentive in order to keep playing; Having "grades" in between every fourth of a rank or something of the likes would be a start, as the symbol would change and a small SP bonus would be rewarded. Also, Rank 12 is 1,000,000 SP...seems odd, right? That you earn around 100-500 in a regular Euro match, and around 200-100 in a Eurasia match, yet only Rank 12 is that much? It would be nice if say, Rank 50 was that much, as that's a long ways away, and it seems more logical. But 12? It sort of kills the fun in earning your rank when you make it harder than getting the Medal of Honor. So, all in all, Ranks need some reforming, and I do like the current symbols, so they should stay, but be spaced out and have additions to each added instead of whole new shaped for every 10- just thought i'd add that tidbit for those who do like the current symbols and patronize the idea of changing them up.

Wouldn't make much sense, and the majority of people who play online games would step away from Afterwind if this were implemented.

We should totally base rank on True Skill. These are my rough ideas on it so be critical I think this could be really cool. 1. Keep the SP earning system the same for the purchase of upgrades only. 2. Beginners can play freely for only SP until they choose to play for a True Skill rank so they don't ruin it right off the bat. 3. Also implementing badges according to True Skill would be awesome and more interesting. 4. True Skill rank could be based on: - How many games played to how many games won (would have to count abandoning games after week 4 or 5 as a loss) -What place they came in by both SP earned and the game stats i.e. units destroyed/lost, battles won/lost and cities won (only these stats because the strategies used would ruin the point i.e. Imp would have a lot more units) -Also what part of the world was used (Europe, Asia, Eurasia, ect.)

If he means what I think he means, True Skill is a balancing system for it's online games that determine how well you play at a game, and match you with similar players. This would never work for Afterwind, considering most Microsoft games operate on computer-made matches, where as in Afterwind, you set all of the options and the game itself up by yourself, completely making True skill a pointless addition. If he meant True skill as in "A persons true skill", this would also negate the purpose of rank, as rank is sign of prestige (No CoDbois, not THAT prestige), and overall service. I criticize the current system because it does not offer incentive; not because it's unfair, it's totally fair if you play the game to play, and not to be Nummer Eins.

I'm still thinking, how rank should be based on the amount of games won out of the amount of games played ... but it can't be the only way to give ranks. There must be something else ... and that something is vital. Can't figure it out myself tho.

Um yeah theres already too many people that abandon games when they see it as a lost cause. i have a terrible win loss record because i rarely abandon games. If i were hosting a civilization board game at my house for example, id be likely not to invite you back if you quit after turn 7 and went to raid my fridge! most rpg's and mmog's level with experience so i think the game is on the right track how its ranking system is going. i thought i read somewhere that you get more sp for eliminating players that5 rank higher than you, is that true?>

Http://afterwind.com/events/news_comments.php?news_id=7 If you read the bottom, it clearly states that the update was "hopefully" "the last time" they make a rank update. This makes the possibility of having the rank system changing very, VERY slim, making the topic pretty much redundant. They said that only for a change in SP needed for the rank. I can't imagine them changing the actual system any time soon, if at all.
