European Union and especially Germany invested alot in Dalmatia, and thats good, but you have to look wider picture. They did it so European workers can go and spend their money, while land is foreign. If you make a list of owners in Dalmatia you will see 90% of assets are owned by Germans. So Germans come to Dalmatia as tourists, enjoy, spend their money on things that is German, and that money goes back to Germany, while Croatia only gets waitres fees. Soon costs will raise and only western tourists will be able to spend while Croats would just work there and be unable to use its own sea. Its not like they can afford it now, rest of Croatia is very poor and underdeveloped and civilians and government both have huge debts.

Give me a break, i cant talk economics to a child... croatian gdp $57 billion debt $49 billion, how much is that , 90% of gdp? yeah no debt at all population below poverty line 18% unemployment 15% budget $19 billion spending $22 billion deficit -3 billion EVERY YEAR And you didnt even had invasion, sanctions and bombing of infrastructure like Serbia had, and your economic performance is on the same level like Serbia. Plus Croatia exchanged yugoslav currency to german mark in 1991 before war and sanctions as advised by America so Croatia didnt had inflation like Serbia which ruined many businesses. And yet you are same. Serbia is bombed back to stone age and you have similar economies lol, thats embarassing to be honest. That mean if Serbia didnt had invasion, war, inflation, croatian backstabbing, they would today have better economic performance and richer economy.

I was told once that Croatian people were so rich that each family owned a boat lol But honestly Croatia is very beautiful country. All Balkan countries are very beautiful and unexplored by tourists. Ofc there are poor people everywhere so I wouldn't be surprised if something like the pic fuhrer posted exists in Croatia, because I know those "houses" If I may call them that, exist in Albania too and poor gypsies live there.

Do you honestly think that all the money goes back to Germany and that there is no economic benefit of this for Croatia, or are you just over dramatising for the effect of it? Sure enough most of the hotels and tourist infrastructure are owned by German companies, but they do create a lot, a loot of tax revenue for your government where there hasn't been much before. Jobs are created directly and indirectly when tourists are enabled to come and enjoy Croatia via this infrastructure. As for the clear bad sides to it which you mention- welcome to the global economy. These things happen or already happened everywhere long ago. Ask Parisians how well they live in their own city? Or Londoners? New Yorkers? We have the same problem in Germany too, with American, British and Israeli investment firms. Gentrification is everywhere where money can be made. It's not about countries taking advantage of each other, as you make it look like. It's people taking advantage of each other, for their own economic benefit. Happens in every country, except maybe places like North Korea.

First, welcome back. Second, i have to emphasize double-standards used by European Union which Germany is part of it. European Union didnt let East Europeans to move to EU when Communism collapsed in East Europe (visas, schengen zone). They feared there will be too many immigrants escaping poor East European countries. Then they arrived to East Europe, purchasing everything and many of those deals where criminal as many large factories in Poland, Czechoslovakia, Romania and Yugoslavia were bought for 10% because corrupted politicians of new regimes allowed it. So you banned people from coming to your land, while you arrived in theirs with money and bought everything they created for the last 50 years. You know Communism was collectivized so people didnt had private property (most of them) and didnt had private job, so when Communism collapsed they had 90% unemployment. Isnt it better not to come to their land so they can have some time to re-organize, re-group and settle things between them first and start new jobs before you come to buy assets. 10-20 years, i dont think thats too much. Remember that China was still closed in the 80's although they opened economy 10 years before that. They had to so their people create private jobs so they can compete on global market. East Europe today cannot compete as they have huge disadvantage as i explained above why. For example Russia didnt had that problem when Communism and USSR collapsed, EU and Germany arrived and opened factories and companies, thus employing Russian workers, but thats why russian oligarchs bought (from drug money) every single asset and strategic resource in the country thus creating monopoly. So instead foreigner to buy it, it was russians who damaged its own country. About Croatia, it was second most developed republic in Yugoslavia, it had both developed tourism and industry. Yugoslavian economy was worth $500 billion a year (GDP), overall economy, financials, assets and resources of Yugoslavia was worth $1,000 billion ($1 trillion). They were already developed country in Europe although they had different system than West, dont you think when Communism collapsed they could just split assets among their people, reform to capitalist economy, retain one party politics or change to multi-party (doesnt matter) and still be developed country in Europe. Starting the war show that they were inefficient and ignorant and result of that is underdeveloped economy and huge debt.

I said law student ...i might be a lawyer one day when i finish college. I say might because not all law students end up being lawyers if you didn't know ( So lets summarize once more: • finished construction engineer high school • law student (still not finished) • passed the economy high school subjects - prequalification for an economist • passed the accounting seminar and become an accountant

Thanks mate! Have to correct you there. The European Union actually pushed for the free movement of people. It was the single member states who objected to that. Countries like Britain and Germany used the opt-out to close their labour markets for Eastern Europeans for 10 years until after their ascension to the EU. And then of course, as part of the ascension process to join the EU, these countries had to undergo a set of "reforms". The stuff Serbia is doing right now, if I'm not mistaken? These reforms are a one-way ride on the liberalisation highway. Most state protection of industries and services is pretty much lifted and thrown out into the global economy. There the vultures wait to buy up and privatise. This is of course not reflective of the high ideals and ethics the EU was founded upon. The problem the EU has though is the way that economic special interest works through it. The Commision is subject to massive lobbying and often acts on behalf of economic interests, not the people's. And this is important if you want to assign blame like you do. If you follow your argument through right to the end on a logical basis, then you must come to the conclusion that it's not neccessarily the EU or even single countries like Germany that are to blame. These constructs work as a tool for the actual powerful people in our society which are of course the big business people. It's our 'liberalised' capitalist system that enables this kind of exploitation, and not just in Eastern Europe but anywhere. The exact same things are happening in Africa, South America, India, especially in Greece right now. Even here in Germany. Or in Britain. Or in America. Big business people doing what they do on the back of the people for the ultimate profit. You're not being exploited by countries or political unions. It's just the world of predatory capitalism your society bought into. You said it yourself, your politcians let it happen. And I'm sure it was not just them, a decade back there used to actually be general excitement among Eastern Europeans over joining the EU and Western World. Remember that?

I agree with what you said. That reminds me of something Serge Trifkovic said: ''European Union is a project of the elite class of Europe that denies the value of genuine heritage of European civilization and seeks to replace it with politically correct dictate of the ideology of postmodernism and postnationalism.'' I dont blame Germany for EU mistakes, but i criticize Germany for example for moving heavy industry to Czech Republic after Germany signed Kyoto Protocol. So instead reducing pollution, you just moved it another country. By the way EU laws are pretty much strangling small businesses and you know it as 'mittelstand'. They shut down Hungarian vineyards and Serbian farms for example, because family owned businesses couldnt spend on 'upgrading' their 'company' to suit EU standard, and only French and Italian larger vineyards and farms could do it, so they are alive. By the way, dont say anything against liberalism or capitalism, they will persecute you as a socialist!
